Tradye Machine & Tool can take on Conventional and Wire EDM projects. We’ve got the knowledge and experience to get the job done right.
Electrical Discharge Machining or EDM, is an advanced technique of machining allowing for more precise and detailed cuts that were once extremely difficult to achieve with traditional machining. The Wire EDM is made up of a single-strand metal wire usually made of brass and is fed through the work piece. It is then submerged into a tank of dielectric fluid, most generally deionized water.
Wire EDM is used to cut plates and to make punches, tools, and dies from extremely hard metals that are more difficult to machine using other machining methods. There are many different applications that require wire EDM that include prototype production, coinage die making, small hole drilling, metal disintegration machining, and closed loop manufacturing, just to name a few.
Advantages include: very fine holes can be drilled, good surface finish, no direct contact between tool and work piece, can work with extremely hard material to very close tolerances, and can complete complex shapes that would be difficult to produce with conventional cutting tools.
Disadvantages include: overcut is formed, reproducing sharp corners is difficult due to electrode wear, additional time and cost for creating electrodes for ram/sinker EDM and very slow rate of material removal.
